Port Louis/New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to Mauritius next month to attend the 57th anniversary of independence of that nation as Guest of Honour on March 12.

Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam told Parliament on Friday that Prime Minister Modi will be the guest of honour for the celebrations.

“It is a great pleasure to announce that following my invitation, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has kindly accepted to be the guest of honour. It is a singular privilege for our country. He does us this honor despite his extremely busy agenda,” the Mauritius PM told Parliament.

“It is a testimony of the close relations of our two countries,” he added.

PM Narendra Modi had visited Port Louis on March 11 and 12, 2015, when the two sides signed several agreements, including one related to the facilities in Agalega island.

In March 2024, President Droupadi Murmu visited Mauritius from March 11 to 13 to attend the National Day celebrations on March 12 as the chief guest.

In November last year, PM Modi had congratulated Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam on his historic election victory in Mauritius.
