Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu): In yet another tragic incident, a 59-year-old devotee from Rajasthan died while waiting in a queue to have the ‘Spatika Lingam’ (crystal lingam) darshan at the world-renowned Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Sanniyasi Rajdoss, who was waiting in the queue for the sacred Spatika Lingam darshan, allegedly complained of breathlessness and fainted this morning.

He was immediately rushed to the First Aid Centre, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The body was sent to Rameswaram Government Hospital for a post-mortem.

Rameswaram Temple police have registered a case and are probing whether the devotee died of suffocation or any other illness.

Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple, revered as one of the twelve ‘Jyotirlinga’ shrines, attracts lakhs of devotees from across the country and abroad every year.

This is the second instance of a devotee dying while waiting in the queue for darshan in a temple within a gap of two days in the state.

Earlier, R Omkumar (50) from Karaikudi in Sivaganga district died while waiting in an Rs 100 darshan queue at Lord Subramania Swamy Temple at Tiruchendur in Thoothukudi district last Sunday.
