Bengaluru: Sunil Ambekar, the Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh of RSS, said on Wednesday condemned the recent incidents of violence in Nagpur, asserting that any form of unrest is detrimental to society.

“Any type of violence is not good for the health of the society, and I think the police are taking cognisance of it, and so I think they will go into the details,” Ambekar told reporters here.

His remarks come in the wake of clashes reported in Nagpur, prompting concerns over law and order in the city.

Authorities have assured strict action against those responsible. The violence erupted following demands by certain groups for the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb, leading to arson, vandalism, and injuries to police officers.

When asked about the contemporary relevance of Aurangzeb and whether his tomb should be removed, Ambekar dismissed the notion. “I think not relevant,” he stated, declining to elaborate further.

The debate over historical figures, particularly Aurangzeb, has resurfaced periodically, with various political and social groups voicing differing opinions on their legacy and place in modern India.
