New Delhi: In-camera proceedings were on in a Delhi court Thursday night regarding the 26/11 Mumbai attack accused Tahawwur Rana, who has been brought here after his extradition from the United States.

Additional Session Judge (ASJ) Chander Jit Singh is conducting the in-camera proceedings.

Rana, a Pakistan-born Canadian national, was brought to Patiala House Court post his medical examination after landing here in a special plane from Los Angeles. The NIA formally arrested Rana, a key conspirator in the deadly 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, immediately after his arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The court had on January 28 given a directive to the staff of a Mumbai court to forward documents about Rana. The records were submitted to the Delhi Court.

Ahead of Rana’s arrival from the US, the court received the trial records related to the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) made an application to the court and sought the retrieval of the case files from Mumbai.

Stringent security measures have been taken in and around the Patiala House to ensure there was no disruption of law and order in the complex during Rana’s court production.

The Delhi Police earlier removed the public and mediapersons from the court premises citing security reasons.

The trial court records were previously sent to Mumbai due to the presence of multiple cases related to the 26/11 attacks in both cities.

26/11 Mumbai attack accused Rana is one of the accused who was chargesheeted by the NIA in 2011 and by the Mumbai Police in 2023. NIA chargesheeted Rana in connection with a larger conspiracy linked to the 26/11 Mumbai attacks whereas Mumbai Police chargesheeted him for his role in 26/11.

The US Supreme Court rejected Rana’s appeal to stop the extradition and cleared the way for his transfer to Indian custody.
