Islamabad: Hours after India declared a Pakistani official in New Delhi as “persona non-grata”, Pakistan, in a tit-for-tat move, did the same with regard to an official of the Indian High Commission here.

In a media release issued around midnight, Islamabad accused the Indian official of engaging in activities incompatible with his privileged status and directed him to leave Pakistan within 24 hours.

“The Government of Pakistan has declared a staff member of the Indian High Commission, Islamabad, as persona non grata for engaging in activities incompatible with his privileged status. The concerned official has been directed to leave Pakistan within 24 hours,” the Foreign Office of Pakistan said.

“The Indian Charge d’Affaires was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today for a démarche, conveying this decision,” the release added.

Earlier on Tuesday, an official in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi was declared persona non grata by India after being found involved in spying activities.

The official was ordered to leave India within 24 hours.
