Man arrested by UP ATS for spying for ISI

Lucknow: A person has been arrested by the Anti Terror Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police from Moradabad on charges of spying for the Pakistani intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and involvement in anti-national activities, an official spokesman said here.

The spokesperson said that ATS received intelligence from reliable sources that a person is involved in smuggling on the India-Pakistan border and is protected by a Pakistani agency.

“It was also learnt that this person is spying for the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI,” he said.

The spokesperson said that after the ATS developed a strong intelligence system on this intelligence, it was found that a person, Shahzad, a resident of Azad Nagar locality, Tanda, in Rampur district, has been visiting Pakistan for the past several years and secretly smuggles cosmetics, clothes, spices and other goods between India and Pakistan across the border, and under the cover of all this, he works for the ISI.

The spokesperson said that it was revealed that Shahzad has good relations with the agents of the ISI with whom he is in constant touch.

“Shahzad has shared confidential information related to India’s security with the agents of the Pak agency. On confirmation of this information, an FIR was registered at ATS police station in Lucknow,” he said.

He said that the investigation also revealed that Shahzad used to provide money to the agents of ISI present in India on their behest.

“Shahzad used to send people from Rampur district and many parts of UP to Pakistan for the purpose of working for ISI under the guise of smuggling. The visas of these people were also arranged by the agents of ISI. Shahzad had also provided Indian SIMs to the agents of ISI to spy against India,” he said.

The spokesman said that Shahzad by ATS from Moradabad, who was presented before the court as per rules, and further legal action is being taken.
