Jammu: A fresh batch of 3,500 pilgrims left from the Yatri Niwas Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for the holy Amarnath cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas today, continuing the annual pilgrimage.

“A fresh batch of 3,500 pilgrims this morning left for the Shri Amarnath Yatra cave shrine in Kashmir from the Jammu base camp amid tight security arrangements,” officials said.

Of these, 832 pilgrims departed for the Pahalgam route and 2,668 for the Baltal route, traveling in a convoy of 140 vehicles comprising both Light and Heavy Motor Vehicles.

The 38-day annual pilgrimage began on July 2 from both routes and will conclude on August 9, coinciding with the festival of Rakshabandhan.

So far, over three lakh devotees have undertaken the yatra and paid obeisance at the cave shrine.
