Prayagraj: Abbas Ansari, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) MLA from Mau Sadar seat and son of mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, was sent to jail on 14-days by a local court here on Friday, prosecution sources said here.

Prosecution sources said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) produced Abbas in the district court in connection with a money laundering case. “After hearing the arguments of the counsels of ED and Abbas the court ordered to send him to jail on 14 days judicial remand. He has been sent to Naini jail,” they said.

It may be noted that on November 12 Abbas was produced in the district court by the ED during which the agency moved an application to extend his custody for 7 days. “District Judge Santosh Rai while approving 7 days ED remand of Abbas set conditions that he will not be tortured and will be produced before the court on November 18 after conducting his medical examination,” they said.

Prosecution sources said that as Friday was the last day of the remand ED produced SBSP MLA before the district court. “Abbas looked a bit uncomfortable in the courtroom,” they said.

It may be mentioned that the ED had also arrested Abbas’ maternal uncle Atif Raza alias Sharjil. “During face to face and separate quizzing of Abbas and Sharjil, evidence of converting black money in white in huge amounts has been revealed. Several white collared people used to invest their black money in Vikas construction company and other smaller companies related to it. The ED is preparing to quiz these people by issuing notices to them,” sources said.
