Assam floods exacerbate, 5 lakh hit, 1 dead

On Thursday, June 22, the flood situation in the northeastern state of Assam deteriorated drastically, with the severe flood affecting 5 lakh people, across 12 districts, and as per an official bulletin, 1 person has lost his life as well. According to the Daily Flood Report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the flooding in Tamulpur of Udalgiri district led to the death.

As per the ASDMA, this is the first official record of death on account of flood this year.

On Thursday, the IMD issued ‘Yellow Warning’ for Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, predicting heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning in the north east region during Thursday and Friday.

While till Tuesday, the Lakhimpur district in upper Assam was the worst-hit, on Wednesday, the deluge turned more alarming in the lower and western districts of Assam.
