Kolkata: West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose has sanctioned prosecution against incarcerated former education minister Partha Chatterjee in the multi-crore rupee teachers’ recruitment scandal in the state government-aided schools across the state, sources said on Wednesday.
Chatterjee, who held various ministries in the Mamata Banerjee government, including education and industries, was held by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last year, along with his aide, Arpita Mukherjee.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) intensified its probe after the Calcutta High Court ordered a deep investigation. In July 2022, the agency arrested the politician. Authorities recovered nearly Rs 50 crore in cash from Arpita Mukherjee’s two city flats.
Sources said the Raj Bhawan on Tuesday sanctioned prosecution against the 70-year-old seasoned politician, who was one of the trusted lieutenants of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee.
Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee have been facing the probe in the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scandal, in which many state officials and TMC MLAs are now in jails.
The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) also filed a prosecution complaint against eight accused, including Chatterjee and Mukherjee, in the scam before the PMLA Special Court in the city.
