Kolkata: The anti-terrorist squad of National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday began search operations at nine places in East Medinipur’s Moyna area in the abduction and murder of BJP leader Bijay Krishna Bhuiyan in 2023, official sources said.

During the searches launched at 2 am, the NIA inspected at least nine places but found that many accused were not present at their homes, sources added.

Bhuiyan, a BJP booth incharge, was abducted and fatally wounded in March 2023 and succumbed to his grievous wounds at a local hospital. The relatives of the victim had lodged an FIR with the Moyna police station and moved the Calcutta High Court, which has asked the NIA to probe the crime in which powerful explosives were used, sources said.

The NIA had also conducted searches in the case in May last.
