BJP stages walkout at Bengal assembly

Kolkata: The Opposition BJP on Monday staged a walkout at the West Bengal Legislative Assembly after a no confidence motion move by the party against the Mamata

Banerjee’s government minister – Akhil Giri – was rejected by the Speaker, even as Suvendu

Adhiakri led his legislators to continue protest demonstration outside house.

The speaker rejected the motion, saying the matter is subjudice. A number of PILs filed in the Calcutta High court on the controversial remark.

The BJP has been demanding sacking and arrest of state minister Akhil Giri for his alleged remarks on President of India Draupadi Murmu about her looks during a TMC rally at Nandigram recently.

Meanwhile, the women wing of the BJP began a street rally from College Square to Metro Channel in central Kolkata on the same issue demanding resignation and arrest of Akhil Giri.

After staging a walkout from the floor of the assembly, opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari led his scores of legislators to continue a protest demonstration at the assembly lawn. Hung the picture of the president of India around the neck of each and every BJP MLA, Adhikari shouted slogans against the Mamata Banerjee government’s minister for allegedly insulting the constitutional head of the country.

Giri, who was present in the assembly, accused Adhikari and his party of trying to gain political mileage on the issue.

Giri said he already apologised for his remark and did not mean as the issue was raised by the opposition.

The BJP’s women wing led by MP Locket Chatterjee led a protest rally from College Square demanding arrest of Akhil Giri for his alleged insulting the president of India about her looks.

Besides Chatterjee many other top ranking state leaders including state president Sukanta Mazumder, Sajal Ghosh marched through the streets, which disrupted traffic in busy central Kolkata.
