CBI arrests a chief horticulture officer in an alleged bribery case

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two persons including a Chief Horticulture Officer posted in Jammu in an alleged bribery case, the Central probe agency said on Saturday.

A case was registered on the basis of a complaint against the accused Sarbjit Singh (Chief Horticulture Officer) and Gohar Ahmed Dar (middleman) on the allegations of demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakh for complainant’s posting and to resolve his departmental issues including promotion, CBI said in a statement.

CBI laid a trap and caught the said official red handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from the complainant. The said middleman was also caught by the CBI, it said.

Searches were conducted at the premises of both the accused and some others.

During the searches, cash of Rs 3.5 lakh and other documents including movable/immovable property were recovered, it added.
