The Centre is thinking over reducing the age mandate to fight the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, looking at the 65% young population of the country, and many of the political groups are in favour of this proposal. These groups are of the opinion that if the age mandate for fighting the municipal council elections is 21 years, then why should the minimum age to fight Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections be 25 years. Along with this, if, at the age of 18, the youth can cast their votes and elect the governments, then why cannot they be a part of the government.

As per sources, the central government has started thinking about reducing the age mandate on a serious note. India is a young country but the government believes that after 2030, the average age of the country’s population will start rising. That is why, the next 7-8 years are those in which the highest number of youths can reach the Parliament and the Vidhan Sabhas as representatives of the people. Therefore, it is crucial to arrive at a decision in this matter.

The average age of the country’s population is 25 years, which is 10 years and 15 years lesser than China and the USA respectively. Which means that no powerful country in the world has as much youthful power as India has, and probably, in the next 20 years, India will also not have the same. Hence, the government is of the opinion that giving more opportunities to the youth can bring in a revolutionary difference.
