Parambir Singh, 56, former Police Commissioner of Mumbai, batch 1988 has held many important posts in the police department. He was the Director General in Anti-Corruption Bureau. Parambir Singh was appointed as Additional Commissioner of Police, was part of the team during 26/11 attacks.
Served as the DCP in many districts of Maharashtra, had pledged in his speech to ensure safety for women, destroying underworld networks, tackling extortion cases. Param Bir Singh was born in Chandigarh and graduated from Punjab University. He became the Police Commissioner of Mumbai in 2020 replacing Sanjay Barve. Parambir Singh was made the Commissioner by the Maharashtra Govt and was given several high profile cases to handle such as the TRP scam, Anvay Naik suicide case, Murder of Sushant Singh Rajput, Antilia Bomb case, Mansukh Hiren murder and also the Malegaon blast case where Sadhvi Pragya accused of being tortured by Prambir Singh in custody. Anil Deshmukh trasnfered Parambir to home guard after which he wrote a sensational letter to the then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey accusing Anil Deshmukh of extorting 100 crores from restaurants, bars, further stating that Anil Deshmukh had been involved in several malpractices
Anvay Naiks case was reopened and Sachin Vaze took a team of police officers with him along with guns, barged into Arnab Goswamis home and took him into custody. In the TRP case, Parambir Singh held a press conference and falsely accused Republic media network however the complaint was against India Today and only to eventually reveal one day that it was a massive political conspiracy to stop Arnab Goswami from reporting on the cases that was bringing Maharashtra under the spot light, including the Pahalgar lynching case.

Parambir Singh who botched up several cases of corruption, Sushant Singh Rajputs case, TRP case trying to fix Republic media network, Mansukh Hiren case, Antilia case, retired on 30th June along with the current Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey. Decision comes after Parambir Singh faced suspension and he chose not to be labelled as a suspended cop. He also went ahead to challenge his suspension. The Maharashtra Govt suspended the Parambir Singh in the month of December, 2021 initiating disciplinary proceedings against Parambir Singh. The home department filed its reply to Parambirs plea for challenging his suspension. The Home department stated that they have a strong case against Parambir Singh. Following the Antilia Bomb case, Parambir Singh was suspended for mishandling the entire case and botching up.
People raised questions on the whereabouts of Parambir Singh including people from the police force. IPS officer Kiran Bedi said ‘’ Parambir is making a choice between life of escape or life in jail, hinting that he was guilty and that is why he’s running away. Further going to call it a disgrace to the service.
Supreme Court handed over the probe against Parambir to CBI in regards with multiple cases questioning the ‘murky affair’ going on. CBI registered 3 preliminary investigations against PBS.
Controversies and Cases against Parambir Singh
There were multiple cases registered against Parambir Singh in different police stations of Mumbai. Currently he has 5 cases of extortion against him and out of 5, for 3 a non-bailable warrant had been issued. He was declared as a ‘proclaimed offender’ by a Mumbai court and was given a time of 30 days to be present or else he would be declared as an ‘absconder’ and his assets will be seized.
- There was a written complaint lodged by retired Assistant Police Commissioner Shamsher Khan Pathan against Parambir Singh for destroying Ajmal Kasabs phone which was seized during 26/11 attack. The complaint was submitted to the then Mumbai Police Commissioner. Complaint mentioned about how Parambir Singh had to hand over the phone to the investigating office Ramesh Mahale but ended up destroying the phone which could have been used as evidence.
- A complaint was also made against Parambir singh in an extortion case at Goregaon police station.
- Ever since the murder of Sushant Singh Rajput and Disha Salian in Bollywood, there had been a wave of controversies, extortion cases, TRP case and many other dark deeds came out where several people where from the Bollywood industry and the nexus of politicians. In a desperate attempt to shield Sushant Singh Rajputs case, hiding extortion cases along with several other cases where a suspended cop Sachin Vaze was also found involved with Parambir Singh. Parambir had gone missing since then, skipped summons and did not appear for questioning. Parambir Singh disappeared after writing an email about the extortions being done by the then Home Minister of Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh.
- 1st October, the news of Parambir Singh going missing had started to surface. Authorities launched a search for Parambir Singh however he was not to be found anywhere, his lawyers also dint disclose his whereabouts
Parambir Singh appeared in a local police station after being disappeared for months, demanding for protection from arrest to the Supreme Court. He was granted protection and was directed by the apex court to start cooperating with the agencies. His lawyers told the apex court that he was in India and not coming out as he was scared of the action being taken on him by the Maharashtra govt.
