Bengaluru: Residents of Vinayakanagar, Chamarajpet, were left shocked and outraged after three cows were found severely injured, their udders severed by unidentified assailants.

The incident, which took place days ahead of the Makar Sankranti festival, has sparked public outcry and political tensions in Karnataka.

The injured cows, belonging to a local resident named Karna, were discovered in a pool of blood by neighbours, who immediately informed authorities.

The brutal act has raised concerns over animal cruelty and communal harmony, particularly during a culturally significant period for the Hindu community.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda to launch a thorough investigation and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly.

“Strict action will be taken against those responsible. This is an inhumane act, and we will not tolerate any attempts to politicise the issue,” he said.

Meanwhile, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned the government’s handling of the matter. BJP leader R Ashoka attributed the crime to a “Jihadi mindset” and accused the Congress government of failing to ensure public safety. He announced plans to observe ‘Black Sankranti’ if no significant action is taken.

Other BJP leaders, including Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and C N Ashwath Narayan, visited the site and demanded justice for the victims.

The incident has intensified public outrage in the locality, with residents demanding immediate action. Many expressed anger over the timing of the act, considering the cultural and religious importance of cows during Makar Sankranti.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Authorities assured that the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness following the CM’s directives.
