DRI seizes 0.98 kgs of gold in AP

Hyderabad: Official of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have seized 0.98 kgs of gold from a lady passenger in Vijayawada International Airport.

On the basis of specific intelligence that gold is being smuggled into India illegally through Vijayawada International airport by a lady passenger arriving from UAE by an Air India Express flight in the evening of Thursday, DRI sleuths intercepted the said passenger and recovered gold in the form of bangles and chains weighing 980 grams and valued at Rs 50,95,600, a DRI statement here said on Sunday.

As per Customs law, the offences involving more than Rs 50 Lakhs value of smuggled goods are liable for arrest.

Accordingly, the passenger was arrested. The passenger was released under bail as the value of the seized goods falls under the category of bailable offences.

Further investigation is under progress,the statement added.
