Nagpur: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday welcomed Supreme Court’s verdict regarding Professor GN Saibaba and said the verdict comes as a relief to the families of policemen who lost their lives fighting the Naxalites.

Speaking to reporters here, Fadnavis hailed the verdict given by Supreme Court today that stayed the judgment given by the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Friday regarding Professor Saibaba.

He said the judgment of the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court in this regard was surprising and shocking.

It was wrong to let off the accused on a mere technicality when there was so much evidence that he had directly helped the Maoists in anti-social and anti-national activities.

“We went to the Supreme Court yesterday as this decision given by High Court was very painful for the families of the martyrs. I am deeply thankful to the Supreme Court for forming a bench yesterday and hearing it urgently today”, the senior BJP leader said.

Even after all the evidence was submitted to the High Court, the acquittal was done citing only the technical reason of allowing the case, Fadnavis said, adding that the legal battle will continue and we will raise all matters in the Supreme Court.
