Festivals play a key role in preserving cultural heritage: Jagdeep Dhankhar

Itanagar: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has stated that festivals play a vital role in preserving cultural heritage.

He said this while attending the first-ever joint mega Nyokum Yullo celebration in Boasimla of Kamle district in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice President underscored India’s rapid progress, calling it the fastest-growing country in the world.

Dhankhar highlighted India’s remarkable advancements in economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare schemes, stating that the nation has surpassed all others in these areas.

He also spoke about Arunachal Pradesh’s vast hydropower potential, revealing that the state has a capacity of 50,000 MW. The Vice President noted that generating one megawatt of electricity requires an investment of Rs 10 crore, translating to a massive investment potential of Rs 5 lakh crore in the sector.

Union Minister and Arunachal West Lok Sabha MP Kiren Rijiju, who was also present at the event, highlighted the transformative development in Arunachal Pradesh under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He announced that the Trans-Arunachal Highway, set for completion soon, will connect every district headquarters in the state.

Additionally, the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister informed the gathering about the central government’s approval of the Rs 42,000-crore Frontier Highway project, the first road project in India to be sanctioned at such a large scale. He credited this achievement to Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and development in the Northeast.

The Nyokum Yullo (festival), a significant celebration for the Nyishi community, was marked by traditional rituals and cultural performances, symbolizing unity and progress in Arunachal Pradesh.

During the event, Dhankhar felicitated young mountaineer Kabak Yano, the first woman from the Nyishi community to summit Mount Everest.

Earlier, the Vice President was welcomed by Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik, Union Minister Rijiju, State’s Agriculture Minister Gabriel D Wangsu, and other dignitaries to the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ on his arrival in Itanagar.
