First ever Tawi Filmotsva set to boost J&K film industry

Jammu: Designed as a competitive platform with substantial cash prizes, the first ever mega short-film festival “Tawi Filmotsva-2025,” is set to boost the film industry in Jammu and Kashmir.

The artists, especially those associated with the film industry, are enthusiastic over the announcement of “Tawi Filmotsva-2025,” terming it a welcome step for the fraternity and will acknowledge their work in the field.

Notably, “Tawi Filmotsva-2025 is announced officially by the Jammu Kashmir Cine Association (JKCA).

JKCA President Dharminder Kohli expressed, “this time, we are taking a step further by organizing a short film festival on a larger scale. The festival will invite short films from all over Jammu and Kashmir, which will be judged by a top-tier jury. Winners in different categories will be awarded significant cash prizes.”

He revealed that the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages have very benevolently agreed to be in collaboration with Tawi Filmotsva-2025.

Association Vice President Kusum Tikoo emphasized the initiative marks a pioneering effort in the region by offering cash rewards to winners and expressed confidence that the festival would attract a large number of participants, setting a new benchmark for cultural and artistic expression in the Union Territory.

Kohli however, stated that the deadline for film submissions is March 15 and interested participants can visit the JKCA Facebook page and follow the provided link (https://leewardgraphics.com/jkcine/) to submit their entries with a nominal fee of Rs 500 and participants are allowed to submit multiple entries.

With Tawi Filmotsva-2025, JKCA is set to carve a niche in the cinematic landscape of the Union Territory, fostering artistic innovation and engagement, he expressed and said that the festival promises to be a grand celebration of creativity, talent, and storytelling, setting new milestones in the realm of regional cinema.

“This comes as a great opportunity for the budding filmmakers of Jammu and Kashmir to expertise on film making by submitting their films in the competition,” Vikram Sharma, films and theatre director told UNI.

He said, “this effort will also help the new filmmakers to watch the creativity of other competitors and help them groom to more perfection. JKCA’s initiative, hence, will go a long way in shaping the career of the young filmmakers to their best excellence.”

However, the prize structure includes a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for the winner, followed by Rs 7,000 for the first runner-up and Rs 5,000 for the second runner-up.

The festival is scheduled to be held on March 23, at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu.
