Floral tributes paid to MGR

Chennai: Floral tributes were paid to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Bharat Ratna and AIADMK Founder M.G.Ramachandran, popularly clled as MGR, on the occasion of his 107th birth anniversary across the State on Wednesday.

On behalf of the Tamil Nadu government, Ministers T.M.Anbarasan and P.K.Sekar Babu and Greater Chennai Corporation Mayor Ms R.Priya garlanded his statue and paid floral tributes to a decorated portrait of MGR at the Dr MGR Medical University campus at Guindy in the city.

In Chennai, AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami, accompanied by senior party leaders and former Ministers paid floral tributes to a decorated portrait of MGR after garlanding his statue at the party hedquarters.

A large number of AIADMK cadres thronged the party cadres to mark the occasion. Mr Palaniswami also distributed sweets to the party cadres and later administered a pledge to the party functionaries and cadres to strive hard for the party’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections due in 3-4 months time.

Earlier Mr Palaniswami paid floral tributes to MGR’s portrait at his Greenways Road
residence.

Expelled AIADMK leader O.Panneerselvam, along with his supporters also paid floral tributes to MGR.

Tributes were also paid to the late charismatic leader in every nook and corner of the State as party cadres put up MGR’s portrait, and played songs from his filmsand also launched welfare measures and organised mass feeding of the poor to mark the occasion.
