Former SC Judge Justice Dinesh Maheshwari appointed Chairperson of 23rd Law Commission

New Delhi: Justice (Retired) Dinesh Maheshwari, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the 23rd Law Commission of India.

The Commission, which advises the government on legal reforms, officially took charge on Tuesday.

Joining him on the panel are Advocate Hitesh Jain and Professor D.P. Verma of the Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), who have been appointed as members of the Commission. Their tenure is set to continue until August 30, 2027.

The previous 22nd Law Commission was chaired by Justice (Retd.) Ritu Raj Awasthi, former Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.

Other members of that panel included former Kerala High Court Judge Justice K.T. Sankaran, Prof. Anand Paliwal, Prof. D.P. Verma, Prof. (Dr.) Raka Arya, and Shri M. Karunanithi.
