Chennai: Four empty coaches of a suburban EMU train derailed near Avadi Station
on Tuesday morning.

The train, brought from Annananur yard, was about to be shunted at the Avaid station, when the coaches jumped off the rails.

Initial reports said the EMU loco driver has jumped the signal resulting in the mishap.
Through il traffic on the Arakkonam–Tiruvallur-Chennai Central stretch was affected
due to the derailment.

Operation of some express trains to and from Chennai Central to several destinations,
including Bengaluru, Coimbatore and Tirupati, were delayed.

Railway officials are engaged in restoring the normal traffic by clearing the derailed wagons.
