Jerusalem: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Wednesday that it conducted a strike against Palestinian fighters in the West Bank, using a unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), in response to a fire at Israeli security forces.

“A short while ago, IDF and Israel Border Police forces conducted counterterrorism activities in Wadi Bruqin, in the area of Jenin, and apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist activities. Additionally, the forces opened fire toward armed terrorists. Hits were identified.

During counterterrorism activity in the Jenin Camp, armed terrorists fired and hurled explosive devices at Israeli security forces. In response, an UAV struck the terrorists. Hits were identified,” the IDF wrote on Telegram.

No injuries to Israeli security forces were reported, the statement added.

The tensions between Palestinians and Israel have escalated after Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7 and breached the border, killing and abducting people in neighboring Israeli communities. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million people, cutting off supplies of water, food and fuel. The blockade was later eased to allow trucks with humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The escalation of the conflict has resulted in thousands of people killed and injured on both sides.
