In all 14 die in 2 spurious liquor tragedy incidents in TN

Chennai: In all 14 people have died after consuming spurious liquor in two separate incidents in Villuppuram and Chengalpattu districts of Tamil Nadu during the last two days.

While the toll in yesterday’s liquor tragedy at Ekkiyarkuppam fishing hamlet near Marakkanam in Villuppuram district rose to nine, with four more people succumbing in hospitals, five people, including a couple died at Madurantakam in Chengalpet district.

A total of four people were arrested in connection with the two incidents, police said.

Four police personnel were placed under suspension. Meanwhile, Chief Minister MK Stalin visited the hospital where the victims of Marakknam incident were undergoing treatment
and enquired about the treatment given to them.

He also met the family members of the deceased and consoled them. In a related development, DGP C Sylendra Babu issued orders to conduct a special search operations to trace and eradicate the sale of spurious liquor in the State.
