India’s active Covid-19 cases near 7,500; 9 deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi: India’s total active Covid-19 cases approached nearly 7,500 on Saturday, with 269 new infections reported in the past 24 hours until 8 am. The number of deaths was slightly higher than usual, with nine fatalities recorded during the same period, as per the data available from the Union Health Ministry.

States like Gujarat, Kerala, and Maharashtra continue to report the highest number of cases. The overall count has been steadily rising over the last few weeks, from just 257 active cases on May 22 to over 7,400 by June 14. During this time, 11,967 patients have recovered from the virus, the government data shows.

Among the nine recent deaths, four were reported in Maharashtra, three in Kerala, and one each in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. Most of the deceased had pre-existing health conditions.

Delhi has reported a total of 672 Covid cases so far, with no new infections or deaths in the past 24 hours. The national capital currently has 757 active cases, according to the latest data.

Fatality wise, in Kerala, three men aged between 61 and 83 passed away, all with serious pre-existing health conditions. Maharashtra reported four deaths involving patients aged 34 to 85, many of whom had other illnesses such as infections, organ problems, or cancer alongside COVID-19.

Rajasthan recorded one death of a 70-year-old woman suffering from severe lung infection while Tamil Nadu reported one death of a 73-year-old man who had multiple health issues including high blood pressure, strokes, and kidney problems.

Health officials emphasize the importance of caution and early medical intervention, especially for those with underlying health concerns.
