Kejriwal moves SC after Delhi HC declares ED’s arrest valid

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday moved the Supreme Court against a Delhi High Court order that held his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate as valid and observed no contravention of law took place while arresting the CM for his alleged involvement in the Delhi Liquor Policy case.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned the matter before Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud who assured that the matter will be taken up on an urgent basis.

The high court Tuesday dismissed Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the ED and also termed his remand as “not illegal”.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma held that the ED has placed enough material, statements of approvers and AAP’s candidate stating that Kejriwal was given money for Goa elections.

The court also upheld ED’s contention that Kejriwal was the mastermind in formulating the New Excise Policy through which he conspired to get kickbacks and used proceeds of crime for Goa elections.

This order of the Delhi High Court has now been challenged before the apex court.

The Supreme Court will be closed for three days due to Eid holiday followed by the weekly holiday.
