Lingayat seer found dead in mutt

Belagavi (Karnataka): The Head pontiff of Guru Madiwaleshwar Mutt, Basava Siddalinga Swami, was found hanging from the ceiling of his room in Neginhal village in this Karnataka district on Monday morning.

The incident came to light when some of the devotees did not find the seer coming out of his room at his usual morning time. Worried, they tried to break open the door locked from inside but failed. They peeped through a window and saw the seer hanging from the ceiling.

A news of his death spread, other devotees and villagers started to gather outside the mutt.

Prima facie the police suspect that the seer ended his life after his name was dragged into an audio clip wherein the character and illicit relationships of some seers was discussed by two women in a conversation.
