Imphal: Two children aged eight months, two and a half, and a woman were found dead at the Manipur-Assam border area on Friday night.

Police suspect them to be among the six Meitei women and children who went missing during violence in Jiribam district on November 7.

The killing of children and women by Kuki militants sent shockwaves in Manipur and Assam. Manipur government ordered closure of all educational institutions.

On November 11, Kuki militants burnt houses and shops and abducted three children and three women from a relief camp. The village of the six persons was burnt by Kuki militants; hence, they were living in a relief camp at Jiribam.

The militants attacked a CRPF camp, and in the retaliation, ten Kuki militants died.

The civil societies of Manipur had appealed to the Kuki militants to release the women and children; however, three of them were killed.

The bodies were taken to a hospital in Assam. All bore signs of torture, tortured to death, and bodies thrown in a river.

The Manipur Cabinet discussed the matter and reportedly urged the centre to declare the Kuki organisations responsible for the attack as terrorist organisations.
