MCC continues till new LS established: EC

Mumbai: Although all phases of the 2024 Lok Sabha General Election in Maharashtra ended with the fifth phase on May 20, the model code of conduct that kicked in on March 16, remains in force and no relaxation is allowed, the State CEO’s office informed on Friday.

The Chief Electoral Officer issued a statement saying the MCC will remain in place until the notification of the establishment of the 18th Lok Sabha is published by the Commission after the declaration of the results.

A Scrutiny Committee led by Maharashtra Chief Secretary via a circular dated February 2, 2024, recommend to the Election Commission cases requiring exemption from the Code of Conduct on extreme urgency, a total of 59 such proposals were considered.
