New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi was adjourned till 10 am on Friday amid chaos inside the House at Civic Centre here.
The councillors of Bharatiya Janta Party and Aam Aadmi Party created a ruckus over the election of six members of the Standing Committee following which the House was adjourned for the thirteen times since Wednesday.
The House faced multiple disruptions as BJP and AAP councillors continued to raise slogans and create chaos. As per the visuals, the situation turned so ugly when some councillors started hurling water bottles.
AAP alleged that BJP councillors created a ruckus following which the House had been adjourned repeatedly. In a press conference, newly elected mayor Shelly Oberoi said as per the instructions of the Supreme Court, Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Standing Committee election was held. The elections of Mayor and Dy Mayor were conducted properly.
Oberoi alleged that BJP councillors started chaos over the election of six members of the Standing Committee.
BJP also held a press conference on Thursday morning here and alleged that carrying mobile phones while going to cast vote is a violation of secrecy. “We are saying that mobile phones should not be allowed while going to cast the vote for standing committee members,” said Manoj Tiwari, BJP MP.
Earlier, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday alleged that BJP Councillors tried to attack the newly elected mayor. Sisodia tweeted in Hindi and wrote, “The BJP, which has lost the election of mayor and deputy mayor, is now resorting to hooliganism in the Standing Committee elections. They have stopped the election of committee members for many hours and now the BJP councillors in the House have attacked the newly elected mayor.”
Reacting to chaos inside MCD House, Delhi BJP unit working president Virendra Sachdeva on Wednesday alleged that AAP would not allow the standing committee members election due to the fear of defeat. “We were saying from the beginning that AAP will not allow the Standing Committee elections to be held after the mayor and deputy mayor elections and they have proved it that AAP will not allow the Standing Committee elections due to the fear of defeat,” Sachdeva tweeted.
