Northern Command celebrates Infantry Day

Jammu: The Northern Command on Thursday celebrated the 76th Infantry Day with a traditional wreath laying ceremony at the Dhruva War Memorial in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A Defence Ministry spokesman said the Infantry Day is celebrated to commemorate the operations launched by the Indian Army on October 27, 1947 to thwart the Pakistani aggression on Jammu and Kashmir.

Lt General N S Raja Subramani, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Northern Command, laid a wreath on behalf of Lt General Upendra Dwivedi, GOC-in-C, Northern Command.

He complimented all ranks and veterans of Infantry for their devotion to duty and indomitable spirit while working under trying and challenging conditions.

He also saluted their contributions and sacrifices of soldiers to protect the territorial integrity of the nation and fighting terrorism.
