Odisha: CM announces compensation for flood-affected people in Balasore

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced financial assistance for people severely affected by the floods in Balasore.

Several parts of Balasore district were impacted by floods due to heavy and incessant rain triggered by a low-pressure system during the month.

The Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas and directed the administration to provide financial aid to those impacted by the disaster.

Following the Chief Minister’s directive, the government announced the financial assistance package on Tuesday night.

As per the decision, financial aid of Rs 1,20,000 will be provided for completely damaged houses, Rs 6,500 for the repair of partially damaged pucca houses, and Rs 4,000 for partially damaged kutcha houses. Additionally, Rs 8,000 will be provided for damaged huts and Rs 3,000 for damaged cowsheds.

Families whose houses have been damaged or submerged in water for two days will receive financial assistance of Rs 2,500 for clothing and Rs 2,500 for kitchen utensils.

A financial assistance of Rs 8,500 per hectare will be provided to compensate for losses in non-irrigated areas, Rs 17,000 per hectare for irrigated land, and Rs 22,500 per hectare for perennial crops. Small and marginal farmers will receive Rs 18,000 per hectare for areas with three-inch sand deposition on agricultural land, with a minimum compensation of Rs 2,200.

For the repair and renovation of fish ponds damaged by the flood, Rs 18,000 per hectare or a minimum of Rs 2,200 per hectare will be provided. Fishermen affected by the flood will receive compensation of Rs 15,000 for completely damaged boats, Rs 6,000 for partially damaged boats, Rs 4,000 for completely damaged nets, and Rs 3,000 for partially damaged nets.

The government has also announced compensation of Rs 10,000 per hectare for damage to fish seed farms.

According to official sources, funds will be released to various departments to carry out repair and renovation work after the report on damage to public property caused by the flood is finalised and submitted by the respective departments
