Odisha: Window panes of Vande Bharat Express damaged by stone-pelters

Bhubaneswar: The window panes of the Executive Class coach of Rourkela-Bhubaneswar Vande Bharat Express were damaged by the stone-pelters on Sunday.

East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources here on Monday said the Vande Bharat Express train was targeted by stone-pelters between Meramandali and Budhapank in Dhenkanal-Angul Railway Section of Bhubaneswar-Sambalpur Rail Line on Sunday.

Due to this incident, the windowpanes of the Executive Class coach have been damaged.

This is not the first time in the country the Vande Bharat Express train has been targeted. Similar incidents had also occurred in other parts of the country.

However, no passengers have been injured in any of the incidents so far.

The incident was reported by the on-duty RPF Escorting Staff. The security wing of the ECoR has taken it seriously and alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP).

RPF’s Assistant Security Commissioner from Cuttack has been rushed to the spot.

Indian Railways, especially East Coast Railway, is consistently making drives to educate the public, especially those who reside in nearby areas of rail lines, not to throw stones on trains that could harm the passengers.

The local police have also been informed about the matter, and strict action will be taken against the stone-pelters. Both the security wing and the ECoR, in coordination with local police, are on the job of tracing out the culprits.
