Om Birla elected LS Speaker by voice vote

New Delhi: NDA candidate and three-time BJP MP Om Birla was on Wednesday re-elected as Lok Sabha Speaker by voice vote, marking a rare contest between the Treasury and Opposition benches for the Chair.

Soon after Birla’s election as Speaker for a second successive 5-year term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi congratulated him and escorted him to the Speaker’s Chair.

PM Modi addressed the House and highlighted Birla’s achievements as Speaker and MP.
