One killed, 50 injured in Manipur attack

Imphal: A person was shot dead while 50 others sustained critical injuries in an attack by armed miscreants belonging to a particular community at Pallel, Kakching district on Friday.

Police said the deceased, identified as Jiten, and five others who were at Pallel were shot at. Jiten received injuries to his head and succumbed to his injuries.

Heavy firing continued, and over 50 people were injured. Most of the victims were rushed to Jeevan Hospital in Kakching.

People from nearby areas assembled and protested the attack, and they tried to march towards the area from where the firing started. They were stopped by the Assam Rifles, as most of them were women and unarmed.

Thoubal and Kakching district Apunba Lup ( TAKDAL) has called a public curfew on Friday and Saturday to protest the failure of the state to control the Manipur crisis.

Manipur Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi issued an appeal to TAKDAL to withdraw the curfew.
