New Delhi: At the press conference called to announce the India-US Trade deal conclusion, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal lashed out at the opposition bloc for creating ruckus in the Parliament, saying the Congress and its allies are not “interested in the nation’s growth”.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Goyal said that he comes with a “negative mindset”. He also slammed the opposition bloc parties like TMC, SP, DMK, and the Left for not allowing the House to function on a “non-issue”, denying the government an opportunity to announce the important deal in the floor of the House.
Later, giving full credit to the enduring bonding between the Prime Minister Modi and the US President Donald Trump for concluding the much anticipated trade agreement between India and the US successfully, Goyal that the deal concluded between the two countries is “one of the best deals” that no other country has been able to get in recent years.
“PM Modi clinched the deal with the US on the basis of his friendship with President Trump,” Goyal said. Without revealing the details of the deal, which he said, will be announced through a joint statement soon, he said that the deal will make every Indian proud.
Highlighting the efforts made by the negotiating teams of two countries, the minister said that the deal has been concluded taking into account the sensitivities of sectors like agriculture, dairy.
“Today, 140 crore Indians are celebrating the trade deal, which is in the final stages of detailing between negotiating teams,” he said at a press conference here. “It’s not merely a trade deal, it is a window of opportunities for India’s growth and development,” Goyal said.
He said that the trade deal will open a lot of new opportunities for Indian industry. He specifically mentioned sectors such as textiles, agriculture, gems and jewellery, leather, machinery, airplane, etc, as potential beneficiaries.
