Chennai: The third day of the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 witnessed a mesmerising display of hockey prowess as three gripping matches unfolded at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai.

From resolute defenses holding strong against persistent attacks to stunning comebacks and impressive individual performances, the day had it all. Fans were treated to exhilarating action as China and Korea battled to a tense 1-1 draw, Pakistan staged an impressive fightback to secure a thrilling 3-3 draw against Japan, and India returned to their winning ways with a commanding 5-0 victory over Malaysia.

The high-octane matches have set the stage for an intense competition, leaving spectators eagerly anticipating what the remaining days of the premier hockey event will bring.

In a thrilling encounter, Pakistan showcased their fighting spirit to draw 3-3 against Japan at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium. Drag flicker Muhammad Sufyan Khan emerged as the Hero for Pakistan, scoring two crucial goals to secure a vital point.

Pakistan opened the scoring when Abdul Rana capitalized on a goalkeeping error by Japan to find the net. However, Japan responded swiftly through Seren Tanaka’s well-placed shot. Sufyan Khan’s drag flick put Pakistan back in the lead, but Japan turned the tables with goals from Ryosei Kato and Masaki Ohashi, leading 3-2 at one point.

In the final quarter, Sufyan Khan once again proved his worth, firing a powerful drag flick into the roof of the net to equalize and secure a well-deserved draw for Pakistan.

The Hero of the Match was Muhammed Sufyan Khan (Pakistan, No 15), who played a crucial role in Pakistan’s comeback with his goal-scoring prowess. The young player of the match was Murtaza Muhammed (Pakistan, No 17), demonstrating his potential as a young talent.
