Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party staged a protest on Wednesday against water, power shortage and rising power tariff.

The protest was led by party additional General Secretary and former Minister Asiea Naqash and District President Srinagar Abdul Qayoom Bhat.

Party workers and leaders participated in the protest, which started from the PDP headquarter’s Srinagar towards Lalchowk.

However, it was interrupted and dispersed by police near Kothi Bagh police station, PDP leaders said.

The protestors raised slogans against the concerned departments for their complete failure and negligence in providing respite and adequate supply to consumers.

They also expressed resentment over the inability and failure of the LG administration to address this grave issue despite making huge claims.

“There is a total failure of the government to provide a proper supply of water and power during the summer to all, including farmers who are suffering badly.” Naqash said that

She also expressed deep anguish over the power hike and huge tariff bills imposed on consumers in J&K without any kind of accountability or supply.

“People are forced to pay huge amounts without proper and timely supply. LG administration, instead of giving concessional power to J&K people, is indulged in selling the same to other states,” she said.

Asiea demanded immediate restoration of power and water supply to all consumers, including proper supply of irrigation water to farmers, as most of the irrigation canals in the valley are dry and need to be restored at the earliest.
