Mental health has long been a neglected and stigmatized subject. However, today, growing awareness and concerted efforts are paving the way for greater access to mental health care and support.

One such effort is the PsychoSynergy – mental health festival, which is being organised on Saturday, February 8, by the Department of Psychology of CES’s Parvatibai Chowgule of Arts and Science, Autonomous, in collaboration with the Psychiatric Society of Goa. PsychoSynergy is a unique platform that will bring together organizations from the mental health and allied fields across Goa, providing them an opportunity to showcase their impactful work.

The event will feature 14 diverse organizations, all under one roof, offering a comprehensive glimpse into the initiatives and resources available in the state of Goa. In addition to this, PsychoSynergy will host a series of engaging activities, including a lecture series on ‘Youth Mental Health’ by young and dynamic psychiatrists; interactive sessions on stress management, parenting, and men’s mental health, conducted by experienced faculty and practicing alumni; and an open mic session, offering a safe space to share your thoughts, experiences, and stories.

Ahead of the much-awaited event, Principal Professor, Dr. Sangeeta Sankhalkar said, “Mental health is an essential aspect of overall well-being, and this festival aims to create an open platform for discussions, activities, and workshops that will highlight mental health challenges, promote self-care, and offer resources for mental health support. Department of Psychology, in collaboration with the Psychiatric Society of Goa, is organizing a Mental Health Festival on 8th February 2025 at Chowgule College. This event is a significant step toward raising awareness about mental health, reducing stigma, and fostering a deeper understanding of its importance in our daily lives.”

“As a psychiatrist and the Joint Secretary of the Psychiatric Society of Goa, I am excited to participate in PsychoSynergy, a groundbreaking Mental Health Festival that brings together diverse organizations and experts to foster awareness and action in the field of mental health. The lecture series on Youth mental health is an opportunity to highlight the unique challenges faced by our younger generation and the importance of providing them with the support they need. Also, this is a great opportunity to interact and network with various stakeholder organisations in the field of Mental health. Together, we can break the stigma around mental health and ensure that it is prioritized, especially in our workplaces and communities” said Joint Secretary of Psychiatric Society of Goa, Dr Tanvi Pednekar.

Dr. Sobita Kirtani, In-charge of the department of Psychology has also acknowledged the support of Thomas Seva Foundation, Goa towards the event.

In alignment with this year’s World Mental Health Day theme, ‘Prioritizing Mental Health in the Workplace’ participating in the event would help gain insights and enriching experiences to support mental well-being in every sphere of life. So, find your way to Chowgule College on 8th February, from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm.
