The recent horrific crime committed in Dausa, Rajasthan, wherein a woman named Badam Meena was brutally gangraped and then burnt and her dead body thrown into a well, shook the conscience of the people of the country and they raised their voices asking for justice for the deceased victim. But what can twitter trends do if the police, administration and the state government are not ready to bring the culprits to book?
Talking to Goa Chronicle, the BJP Rajasthan State President, Satish Poonia revealed the scary statistics of the increasing crime rate in Rajasthan. It was divulged that in the last year, 2021-22, 6,337 cases of murders, rapes, and assaults were reported. He stated how such cases are at an all-time increase because of the failure of the state and police machinery and how in most of these cases, the culprits were never arrested and if caught, were never punished.
Coming back to the unfortunate crime committed against Badam Meena, Poonia stated how the woman was going to her maternal house, and on her way, two individuals offered her a lift and then brutally raped her. He also revealed how she was accompanied with a young child, who had later revealed the details of the incident.
Shockingly, one of the alleged culprits who was caught was caught by the brother of the victim and not by the police. Till date, no official arrest has been made by the police. Poonia added how after the body was recovered, the family wanted the cremation to take place the next morning, as no cremations take place after dark, but the police forced the family to get done away with the funeral at night and this clearly indicated towards the fact that the police is trying to save somebody from the consequences of the crime committed because if proper investigation and postmortem would have taken place, a lot many details could have spilled out.
The BJP Rajasthan President also stated how the local village community where the victim belonged is highly disturbed and on the 1st of May, a large-scale protest rally will be organized by them in order to ask for justice and ask the police and the government to take the required action against the culprits. And while the government and police do absolutely nothing, the BJP fact finding committee which was established by Poonia to look into the matter will reach the village on the day of the rally to assist the family and community of the deceased.
As per Poonia, since the time the current Congress dispensation came to office in the state, more than 6 lakh FIRs have been registered, which has happened for the first time in Rajasthan. Rajasthan, currently, records the highest number of crimes against women in the whole country. As per data, on an average, 18 rapes and 7 murders are committed each day in the state.
While Badam Meena’s family continues to cry out for justice, the Rajasthan government or the Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, for that matter, continues to maintain a stony silence. The quiet which is even more ironical is that of the so-called liberal cabal of the country, which, when a similar crime occurs in a BJP-ruled state, showcases an instant meltdown on social media but in the case of Rajasthan, just because it is ruled by their favorite Congress, every liberal of the country seems to have turned a blind eye towards the unfortunate happenings of the case.
Also questionable is the absence of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra, who, when a similar case from Hathras, UP was reported, went rushing to the state only to politicize the matter and to hint at the poor state of affairs in the BJP ruled state; but at the same time, Priyanka’s ‘ladki hoon, lad sakti hoon’, seems to have gone for a toss when a horrendous crime against a woman takes place in a state which is ruled by her political party.
In Rajasthan, neither does Priyanka care enough to visit the house of the victim nor does Rahul try to ‘fight’ the police and fall down in a skirmish with them, because at the end of the day, this was a liberal-secular crime.
