Samarkand: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India is ready to share its experience of Startups and Innovation with other SCO member countries and added that his government is making progress in making India a manufacturing hub.

“We are making progress on making India a manufacturing hub. India’s young and talented workforce makes us naturally competitive.

“India’s economy is expected to grow at 7.5 per cent this year, which will be the highest among the world’s major economies,” the Prime Minister said addressing the SCO Summit in Uzbekistan here.

“There are over 70,000 start-ups in India today, of which over 100 are unicorns.

“This experience of ours can be of use to many other SCO members as well. For this purpose, we are ready to share our experience with the member countries of SCO by establishing a new Special Working Group on Startups and Innovation,” Modi said.

He said that there is also a lot of focus on proper use of technology in India’s people-centric development model.

We are supporting innovation in every sector, he added.

The Prime Minister began his address by heartily congratulating Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his “effective leadership of the SCO” in this year’s challenging global and regional environment.

The SCO Summit got underway here Friday with the participation of leaders of eight Member States, — India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Modi is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Mirziyoyev, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on the sidelines of the Summit.

Later in the evening, the Prime Minister will pay floral tribute to the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov who passed away in 2016.
