Islamabad: Russia is ready to act as a mediator in the settlement of the conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert Khorev told Sputnik.

“Considering the existing disagreements between Islamabad and Kabul, Russia is ready to act as a mediator for their settlement if both sides deem it appropriate. The Moscow format could be a suitable platform for this,” Khorev said.

The diplomat added that resolving the conflict between the countries is primarily the prerogative of Islamabad and Kabul, but noted that this also meets Russia’s interests.

In addition, Khorev stressed that Moscow has repeatedly advocated for stabilisation of the region, emphasising the need to immediately free up frozen funds belonging to the people of Afghanistan.
