Savarkar’s birthday would be celebrated as ‘Swatantraveer Gaurav Din’: CM Shinde

Mumbai: Maharashtra state Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday announced here that, Swatantraveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s birthday falling on May 28 will be celebrated as ‘Swatantraveer Gaurav Din’ by the state government.

State Industries Minister Uday Samant had made a demand to the Chief Minister in this regard.

Various programs and activities will be organized on that Day to promote the ideas of Swatantra Veer Savarkar.

Swatantraveer Savarkar had made important contribution for the freedom of the country and for the upliftment of the nation. Veer Savarkar advocated abolition of untouchability and other social reforms.

Veer Savarkar played an important role in the political affairs of Maharashtra. He is still revered as the ideal legend of Maharashtra.

Minister Samant said freedom fighter Savarkar’s birthday should be celebrated to pay tribute to his immense contribution and to pass on his patriotism, courage and progressive thinking to the younger generation.

Considering the feelings of the people of Maharashtra, Industry Minister Samant had requested the Chief Minister through a letter that the state government should celebrate the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Savarkar on May 28 as ‘Swatantrya Veer Gaurav Day’.

According to this, the Chief Minister announced that May 28 will be celebrated as Gaurav Day.
