New Delhi: Hours after scuffle between protesting wrestlers and Delhi Police at Jantar Mantar, heavy police personnel have been deployed at the protesting site. Wrestlers alleged that they were manhandled and misbehaved by the cops late last night and said they will continue their protest here.

While talking to media persons on Thursday, Vinesh Phogat alleged that when wrestlers were bringing beds for sleep at that time some cops were trying to stop us and pushed women. She alleged that there was no woman cop present when this chaos was happening.

She claimed that the men cops who were present there tried to snatch beds which they were bringing for sleep at protesting side from women. Male cops should call women police to deal with the women protesting wrestlers.

A senior police official, however, said during the protest at Jantar Mantar, MLA Somnath Bharti came at the protesting site along with folding beds without permission. On intervening, the supporters became aggressive in trying to get the beds out of the truck.

Early in the morning, Delhi Commission for Women, chief, Swati Maliwal said that Jantar Mantar has been converted into a cantonment.

Maliwal in a tweet wrote, “I am sitting with wrestlers sitting at Jantar Mantar. She is telling how some police officers misbehaved with her, attacked her last night. The Delhi Women’s Commission will take action on all the complaints in writing,”

Reacting to the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took a swipe at the BJP-ruling Central government over protesting wrestlers’ issue, saying people would not tolerate this.

Kejriwal tweeted and alleged, “Such misbehavior with the champion players of the country? This is very sad and shameful. The mind of the entire BJP has become arrogant. These people just want to run the whole system with hooliganism. They have made a mockery of the whole system.”
