Several dead in Poonch as bus rolls down gorge

Jammu: Around 10 people are said to be dead and 27 injured after a bus rolled down into a gorge on Wednesday in border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir.

Spokesman at Police Control Room, Poonch, said, “Ten deaths have been reported so far and 27 people are injured.”

He said that the bus ferrying passengers from Gali Maidan (Saujiyan) towards Poonch when it met with accident near Saujiyan.

Police, Army and locals immediately launched rescue operation and shifted the injured to hospitals.

“The condition of some of the injured persons is critical while more details are awaited,” he added.

Office of J&K LG Manoj Sinha said in a tweet: “Saddened by loss of lives due to a road accident in Sawjian, Poonch.

“Condolences to bereaved families. May the injured recover soon.

“Rs. 5 lakh would be given to (each of) the next of kin of deceased. Directed Police and Civil authorities to provide best possible treatment to the injured.”
