Srinagar: A gunfight raged between the militants and security forces in the outskirts of Srinagar on Sunday, officials said.
Police said based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists, a joint cordon and search operation was launched in the Zabarwan forest area of Srinagar on Sunday.
“As the security forces reached a particular spot, the hiding militants opened fire, and the security forces also effectively retaliated, triggering an encounter,” they said.
“The encounter is underway,” police said.
