Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin today thanked Union Minister Piyush Goyal for accepting his demand and banning single use plastic cigarette lighters and restricting the parts of its imports.

He said said welcome move will strengthen the Tamil Nadu’s matchbox manufacturers and
safeguard over one lakh jobs and reduce harmful plastic waste.

In a social media post, he said “Thank you, Hon’ble Piyush Goyal for fully accepting my
demands by banning single-use plastic cigarette lighters under Rs 20 and now restricting
the import of parts for cigarette lighters.”

“This welcome move strengthens Tamil Nadu’s matchbox manufacturers, safeguarding over
a lakh jobs and reducing harmful plastic waste”, he added.
