Lucknow: The Income Tax Department on Saturday started searches at the premises, including house, office and factory, of former MLA and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader and meat exporter Zulfikar Ahmad Bhutto, official sources said here.

They said that the I-T teams, which reached Butto’s premises in different parts of the city in the morning, are searching the documents.

“Bhutto runs a meat export business in the name of HMA Group. The I-T teams are also carrying out searches at Bhutto’s brother Haji Parvez’s residence in Taj Ganj,” they said.

The sources said that searches were being carried out at Bhutto’s house in Vibhav Nagar, two offices on Fatehabad road and MG Road and a slaughter house in Kuberpur.

“It is being said that the I-T teams have received information about irregularities in taxes.

Bhutto exports meat on a large scale, but the purchase of animals is always done in cash,” they said.

Additional staff may be deployed for the searches that continue, they added.
