Kolkata: West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Monday said the Trinamool Congress has failed to “play” with the central forces as the Election Commission of India (ECI) was monitoring the situation as far as possible to ensure fair and peaceful polling so far.

The TMC could not “play” this time as it did in the last Panchayat and Assembly polls in 2023 and 2021 respectively, he said while taking a round of the voting underway, accompanied by BJP Dum Dum Lok Sabha candidate Silbhadra Dutta.

The ruling party tried to create obstruction to the voters in some of the booths in a few Lok Sabha seats but couldn’t succeed, he said.

He said the pressure was increasing on the ruling party from the first phase of polling on April 19 and the same would double in the remaining three phases.

He said the central forces were being reinforced in West Bengal as polling in some of the constituencies in southern state was completing.

Overall the ECI was maintaining as much as it could to hold fair and peaceful voting, he said adding there was not a single issue of booth capturing nor any incident inside the polling booths.

Polling for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections are underway.
